Holidays

Hi All
Hope you are having a great time on holiday, I'm loving not having to rush out the door so early in the morning.
Hopefully your Roald Dahl challenge is going well? So far I have read my way through 5 Roald Dahl books and hope that you have all completed at least one by the time term 3 starts.
It would be great to hear how your holidays are going, if you email me some high/low points of your holiday so far, I can post them on our blog
Remember we have the ICAS English test on Tuesday the 2nd, visit here for some tips http://www.eaa.unsw.edu.au/about_icas/english
Stay safe and warm

I Am ANZAC

I AM ANZAC on PhotoPeach

I Am ANZAC

This term we have been studying the works of Nigel Brown, we created our own work in his style with the title I Am ANZAC. It has taken us most of the term to complete the paintings but I think you'll all agree they look fabulous.

Parent Interviews

Two nights of parent interviews are over, it was great meeting so many of the Room 5 parents. Most of them now know about our blog and are looking forward to keeping up to date with the happenings in Room 5. I will be interested to see how many new followers we get, it would be wonderful to see some different flags popping up on our flag counter.

A quick reminder that speeches should now be written and you have the holidays to polish them, ready for presenting in week 1. Also our literature focus next term is Roald Dahl with the concept of 'Fair Play, Play Fair'. You need to have read a Roald Dahl book by the end of the holidays and have another one ready for the beginning of term.

Art Gallery Trip

Another fabulous trip with a great class. I was so proud of all of the room 5 students, you were amazing all day. I really enjoyed the trip to the gallery and I am planning to take my own children there in the holidays and spend a bit more time exploring. My favourite part was definitely the studio work, I loved watching you all create your personal crests and I'm looking forward to seeing them completed and up on our wall.

Magic Day

Today was a fabulous day,  we won an iPad from the Yellow Local website. We had to get 250 nominations and we finally accomplished our goal at morning tea. The class exploded with excitement. Now we can't wait to use it. You can still nominate us to win another one, go to: http://auckland.yellowlocal.co.nz/schools and select Ellerslie as your suburb and St Mary's (Ellerslie) as your school. We would love your support.

Travelwise Walk

Room 5 was on a mission to find safer routes to and from school. This will help stop the chaos at the school gate. We had to complete our mission in 3 five minute blocks, we stopped every five minutes to take a photo, check our pedometers and look for landmarks. We also noted safety concerns. We discovered that sometimes that the fastest route is not always the safest, we also found out that walking with our friends can be fun. Walking is also an excellent way to get some exercise.

Getting Started

Welcome to Room 5's new blog we are all excited to be starting our learning journey with blogging.
Today is the first day of what we hope will be an amazing learning journey
